There are couple of reasons why bovine was the preferred source of collagen;
1. Marine collagen is considered an allergen so would exclude individuals with any fish allergies from consuming the product.
2. Bovine collagen has a more rounded amino acid profile which includes type 1, 2 & 3 peptides while marine only offers type 1.
Unfortunately, our Collagen is derived from Beef (bovine). It is incredible difficult to source a vegan/plant based collagen as collagen is naturally derived from beef (bovine) or marine (fish). Plant based collagens are made from a mixture of amino acids from plant based sources to mimic the proportions found in collagen.
It is possible that some farmers choose to incorporate Bovaer® in their cattle feed, as it is a feed additive designed to reduce methane emissions from livestock. However, we want to reassure you that this does not pose any food safety risks to the gelatin and bovine collagen peptides sourced from such cattle.
Our collagen supplier has confirmed that, according to the Gelatin Representatives of the World (GROW), gelatin and collagen peptides derived from bovine materials remain safe for consumption, even if Bovaer® has been used in the cattle feed. Additionally, several credible regulatory bodies have evaluated the safety of Bovaer® and its use in cattle feed, including:

"I love Mayver's low carb, collagen based protein powder. Finding low carb ones is hard, and a lot of low carb things have that 'artificial sugar' horrible taste. So I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing taste of this. I love it! I use the chocolate fudge one religiously too. I can't decide which is better to be honest. My only complaint is that I don't like the tin inside the cardboard packaging. I love the colourful branding so I'd love to keep the external canister, but it's annoying to open the metal tin every day so I've tipped the powder into a reusable plastic container."
