FAQs
Why is your Manuka not Australian?
Why is your Manuka not Australian?
Whilst both New Zealand and Australia offer their own sweet delights, New Zealand Manuka comes only from the leptosperum scoparium plant, commonly known as the Manuka plant. While Australian Manuka can come from any plant in the leptosperum species.
We have been producing and selling New Zealand Manuka for many years under our old Bee Products brand (MGO 30+). We have now rebranded to Mayver’s and improved to a more potent Monofloral MGO 100+. Supporting stronger antimicrobial bioactivity levels and natural medicinal benefits. When we first started producing NZ Manuka (prior to Australia’s now more developed Manuka research) we found New Zealand's stringent standards very beneficial for advocacy in our quest for the purest Manuka, with it also being backed by decades of research. We were one of the first Manuka products (Bee Products) in the major AUS supermarkets at the time.
What is the UMF rating?
What is the UMF rating?
The main reason we don’t have a UMF number on our Manuka is because the industry has adopted the MGO as the standard measure for Manuka Honey.
Methylglyoxal is measured using an HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) to accurately determine the “grade” of the manuka. The product runs through a column which separates each of the honey components and shows them as peaks on a chart. The greater the area of the peak, the higher the concentration of that particular component.
The Unique Manuka Factor is not considered as accurate, however, the industry has provided relative values to compare each.
For our MGO 100+ it would have a UMF of approx. 6.
Is your Manuka Honey heated?
Is your Manuka Honey heated?
Our Manuka honey is heat treated to approx. 60 degC in order to prevent any micro activity and to allow the honey to naturally crystallise as part of the creaming process.
Are there Glyphosate/Pesticide traces found in our honey, and how do we test for this?
Are there Glyphosate/Pesticide traces found in our honey, and how do we test for this?
Our honey is tested for glyphosate before it leaves the beekeeper, and the results consistently show extremely low or undetectable levels—well within food safety standards. We also work closely with New Zealand’s Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) to ensure all our honey meets extremely strict export regulations.
While we can’t guarantee absolute zero traces (since bees roam freely in nature), we take every possible step to ensure our honey is as pure and natural as possible.
