In a world where it’s hard to keep up with the latest health trend, young food blogger Sarah (AKA Pretend Health Freak) takes a more refreshing approach to diet. She creates yummy recipes made with wholesome foods without getting too caught up in labels or fads. Today she’s sharing some tips on how to enjoy the foods you love without sacrificing your health, in celebration of her FREE e-book that’s just launched (find the download links at the end of the page).

What does it mean to be a ‘pretend health freak’?
Basically a pretend health freak is someone who will try their best to be healthy but still enjoy a treat from time to time. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and if there’s one thing we have in common, it’s our love for food! I guess I thought of the name because I didn’t want to be perceived in a wrong or unrealistic way. I’m no different to the next person who has a love for dessert!

What do you enjoy about cooking and coming up with new recipes?
I love being creative in any way I can so creating recipes allows me to do that. Also I feel that my body needs different things at different times so that gives me inspiration to always make new and appropriate recipes. My recipes are always made with love, consideration, and real food.

What does clean eating mean to you?
Clean eating to me is about removing artificial ingredients and understanding that most things in moderation are ok. I eat endless amounts of vegetables, some fruit, wholegrain, nuts, and seeds. If I’m going to have a treat, I’ll make one of my recipes using ingredients from those food groups. And if I eat something that’s not considered clean, I don’t feel too guilty about it because for me, the main focus is moderation.

What are your tips for anyone wanting to get on the healthy bandwagon and stay there?Don’t be too hard on yourself. You can only do your best and the fact you are making an effort to start is already amazing! If you have a sweet tooth, prepare some of my sweet treats from my free ebook and have them there ready so it’s easy to stay on track.

What do you think is the biggest misconception about healthy eating?
People get caught up in THEIR way and think it’s the ONLY way. But there are so many different ways of nourishing your body, and everybody is different. I think stressing about the best diet is not good for anyone’s health, so I guess the misconception is that one size fits all, but I’d have to disagree. I’m really into Ayurveda which explains that in great detail!

What are your go to treats or meals?
The caramel slice from my free ebook is my FAVOURITE. It’s so creamy and sweet, and oh my. As a meal I just love steamed and baked veggies with some home-made pesto! I keep it pretty simple with main meals.

What do you like about Mayver’s?
I LOVE Mayver’s because all of the products are pure, affordable, easily accessible, and a great quality. I love the packaging and how easy is it to peel off the label and reuse the jar afterwards. And then there’s the taste… well every single one is simply delicious and a great addition to my recipes
